Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 21, 2026

Guessr, LLC ("Guessr," "we," or "us") takes your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what our games collect, why we collect it, who sees it, and the choices you have. It is arranged into the following sections:

What This Policy Covers

Throughout this Privacy Policy, our "Sites" means the websites we operate at https://guessr.com/ and its subdomains, together with any official social media or video channels we run, and our "Services" means the games and features we offer through them. This policy covers every Site and Service that links to it, and it forms part of, and is governed by, our Terms of Service.

Using any of our Sites or Services means you accept this Privacy Policy. If you do not accept it, please do not use them.

What Counts as Personal Information

Governments around the world each define personal information in their own way. We treat personal information as any data capable of identifying you, such as your name, email address, IP address, online identifiers such as cookie IDs, location data, and any information relating to your physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural, or social identity. The sections below explain which personal information we collect, why, and what we use it for. You have the right to ask us for this information and to ask that we correct or delete it.

Protecting Children Online

We understand how important it is to protect children's privacy online, and we are committed to full compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States and with comparable laws elsewhere in the world. Our Sites and Services are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or from anyone below the age at which their country requires a parent's consent before an online service may collect their data. Advertising on our Sites is not behaviorally targeted at anyone we know to be a child.

If you are younger than 13, do not send us any personal information. Should we discover that we have unintentionally collected personal information from a child under 13, wherever that child lives, we will delete it from our records as quickly as we can. If you think we may hold information from or about a child under 13, please reach out to us right away at support@guessr.com and we will promptly take the steps needed to remove it.

What We Collect and Why

PLAYING THE GAMES. You do not need an account to play. Your settings, progress, streaks, and personal statistics are stored in your browser's local storage and stay on your device. When you finish a round, your browser sends us the song's identifier and whether, and at which stage, you guessed it. We keep only running totals per song, with nothing that ties a result to you, and use them to show how other players did on the same song.

SHARING A RESULT. The share button hands your result to your device's share sheet or clipboard. We do not see who you share it with. When analytics is enabled, we record that you copied a share and its kind, but not the shared text or its recipient.

VISITING OUR SITES. Like any website, our servers and content delivery network receive your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request. We use this to deliver the pages, to protect the Sites against abuse, and to diagnose problems. Our servers keep access logs containing your IP address, browser details, and the web address you requested for up to 90 days.

ANALYTICS. We use a self-hosted, cookieless analytics tool that records page views and titles, the page address including any query string, the site that referred you, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size, and language, the country and city derived from your IP address, page load timings, and in-game events such as changing a setting. It sets no cookies and cannot identify you. Views within a calendar month are linked under a one-way hashed identifier that does not contain your IP address, and the IP address itself is never stored. No analytics vendor receives this data. Requests pass through our content delivery network on their way to our own servers, where the records are kept for as long as we run the Services.

MUSIC PREVIEWS AND ARTWORK. Song previews and cover art are loaded by your browser directly from a music preview provider. As with any site your browser fetches content from, that provider receives your IP address and browser details and may set its own cookies. Its privacy policy governs what it does with them.

CONTACTING US. When you email us, we keep your email address and your message so that we can reply and for our records. Our mailbox is hosted by a third-party email provider, which may store it outside the United States and Canada.

IF WE ADD ACCOUNTS. Should we introduce accounts, we would collect what signing in requires, such as an email address and a password or a third-party login, and we would update this policy before doing so.

IF WE SELL SOMETHING. Should we offer paid products, payments would be handled by a payment provider that receives your card details directly. We would receive confirmation of the purchase and what you bought, never your card number, and we would update this policy before doing so.

Advertising

We show advertisements on our Sites, and a partner sells and serves them for us.

All or partial advertising on this Website or App is managed by Playwire LLC. If Playwire publisher advertising services are used, Playwire LLC may collect and use certain aggregated and anonymized data for advertising purposes. To learn more about the types of data collected, how data is used and your choices as a user, please visit https://www.playwire.com/privacy-policy.

In practice, Playwire LLC ("Playwire") and its advertising partners may set cookies and similar identifiers and may collect your IP address, general location, browser and device details, the pages you view, and how you interact with ads, in order to deliver, personalize, cap, and measure advertising and to detect fraud. Where the law requires your consent, such as in the EEA and the UK, these technologies load only after you agree through the consent tool on our Sites, and you can change your choice there at any time.

OPTING OUT OF PERSONALIZED ADS. You can opt out of personalized advertising from participating companies at optout.aboutads.info, and in Europe at youronlinechoices.com. Playwire's own opt-out is at playwire.com/opt-out, and California residents may also use playwire.com/ccpa-opt-out. Opt-outs are stored as cookies, so clearing your cookies or switching browsers means opting out again. We also honor the Global Privacy Control signal, described under Your Choices and Rights. Opting out does not remove ads, it makes them less relevant to you.

Cookies, Local Storage, and Similar Technologies

A "cookie" is a small file that a website stores in your browser. Our Sites themselves set no cookies. We use your browser's local storage to keep your settings and game progress on your device. Clearing site data in your browser removes it, and your progress along with it.

When ads are shown, advertising cookies and identifiers may be set by Playwire and its partners as described under Advertising, subject to your consent where the law requires it. Our analytics use no cookies at all.

You can block or delete cookies and site data through your browser's settings. Blocking local storage resets your settings and statistics on every visit, and blocking advertising cookies may make the ads you see less relevant.

Who Sees Your Information

SERVICE PROVIDERS. The company that hosts our Sites and delivers our content, and any other provider that runs part of our infrastructure, process data on our behalf and only under our instructions. Our analytics run on servers we own.

ADVERTISING PARTNERS. When ads are shown, Playwire and its partners may collect information through our Sites as described under Advertising. Under some United States state laws, this counts as "selling" or "sharing" personal information, and you can opt out as described in this policy.

LEGAL REQUESTS. We may disclose information about your use of our Sites and Services when we believe in good faith that disclosure is appropriate: to comply with the law (for instance, in response to a subpoena, warrant, or court order); to guard against fraudulent, abusive, or unlawful use of our Sites and Services; to protect our rights and property or those of our partners; to enforce any agreement between you and us; and when we reasonably believe that a situation involving a risk of death or injury to any person calls for it.

BUSINESS TRANSFERS. In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or similar event, the information we hold may pass to our successors or assigns, where applicable law permits and the transfer complies with it.

Apart from the cases described above, we do not sell your information for money and we do not share it with anyone.

Retention, Storage, and Security

RETENTION. Your game settings and statistics live in your browser until you clear them. Per-song guess totals contain nothing about you and are kept for as long as we run the Services, as are our analytics records, which hold a hashed session identifier but never your IP address. Server access logs are deleted within 90 days. Emails you send us are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your request and for our records. Advertising partners keep the data they collect under their own policies.

STORAGE. Personal information we hold is stored on servers we operate in the United States and Canada, so if you visit from anywhere else, your information is transferred to and processed in those two countries. Email is the one exception, because our email provider holds it and may store it elsewhere. Anonymous per-song totals and the audio clips sit with our hosting provider in the United States, and pages reach you through its global network, which answers each request from the location nearest you.

SECURITY. We maintain security measures designed to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information in our control, including encryption in transit and access controls on our infrastructure. Although "perfect security" does not exist on the Internet, we work hard to make your use of our Services secure.

If a Breach Happens

Should we learn that personal information under our control has been compromised, we will notify the people affected, and any regulator we are required to notify, without undue delay and within any period the law requires. Write to us at support@guessr.com if you want to check whether your information is affected.

Your Choices and Rights

ACCESS, CORRECTION, AND DELETION. You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, why we hold it, where it came from, and who it went to. You may also ask us to correct it, to restrict or stop using it, or to delete it. Because most of what we collect is not tied to you, we may be unable to link a record to you at all. Where we can, we will answer without undue delay and within 30 days, and we may take reasonable steps to confirm your identity first.

YOUR DEVICE. Your settings and statistics are in your browser. Clear site data for guessr.com to delete them.

ADVERTISING. Use the consent tool on our Sites, the opt-out links under Advertising, or the Global Privacy Control signal to limit personalized advertising.

GLOBAL PRIVACY CONTROL. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising, and we pass that choice on to our advertising partners.

HOW TO ASK. Email support@guessr.com. If you live in the European Economic Area or the UK, mark your request for the attention of our Data Protection Officer.

California Residents

If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you specific rights over your personal information. This section is our notice at collection.

WHAT WE COLLECT. We collect the following categories of personal information, or will once advertising begins: identifiers (your IP address and the cookie or device identifiers set by our advertising partners); internet activity (pages viewed, in-game events, and interactions with ads); general geolocation (the country, region, or city derived from your IP address); and, through our advertising partners, inferences used to select ads. We collect it from you, from your browser and device, and from our advertising partners, for the purposes described in this policy. We do not collect sensitive personal information.

SALE AND SHARING. We do not sell personal information for money. When ads are shown, allowing our advertising partners to collect identifiers, internet activity, and general geolocation for cross-context behavioral advertising counts as "sharing" and may count as a "sale" under the CCPA. We have no actual knowledge that we sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

YOUR RIGHTS. You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and share; to delete it; to correct it; to opt out of its sale or sharing; and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To opt out, use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" control in the consent tool on our Sites, turn on the Global Privacy Control in your browser, or email us. You may also authorize an agent to make a request on your behalf.

SHINE THE LIGHT. California Civil Code Section 1798.83 lets you ask which personal information we disclose to third parties for their own direct marketing. Write to us at support@guessr.com.

Visitors in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland

CONTROLLER. Guessr, LLC, a company registered in the United States, is the controller of your personal information. You can reach our Data Protection Officer at support@guessr.com.

LEGAL BASES. We process the data needed to deliver and secure the Sites and Services because it is necessary to perform our agreement with you and for our legitimate interest in running them safely. We process cookieless analytics on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding how the games are used. Advertising cookies and personalized advertising rely on your consent, given through the consent tool on our Sites, which you may withdraw at any time. Where the law obliges us to keep or disclose information, we do so to meet that legal obligation.

YOUR RIGHTS. You may ask for access to your personal information, have it corrected or erased, restrict or object to its processing, receive a copy in a portable format, and withdraw any consent you have given. You may also complain to your data protection authority. Contact our Data Protection Officer at support@guessr.com to exercise any of these rights.

INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS. Your information is processed in the United States and Canada. The European Commission and the UK recognize Canada as providing adequate protection for personal data held by commercial organizations. Where we transfer information to the United States from the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, we rely on safeguards recognized under applicable law, such as standard contractual clauses with our service providers.

Changes to This Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the changes on our Sites. Every modification takes effect on the day it is posted, unless stated otherwise, and replaces all earlier privacy policies. We suggest that you review this Privacy Policy regularly and print a copy for your records.

Getting in Touch With Us

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how we use your personal information, contact us at support@guessr.com. If your question concerns data protection under European or UK law, mark it for the attention of our Data Protection Officer.
